Garden Canvas
From March 2022 to May 2024 I spent my free time developing our garden
from a field to family paradise with a very small budget.
The Path of Least Resistance
You have to start somewhere, so why not create a path from one
end of the garden to the other?
In hindsight, this turned
out to be the largest project as most of the path needed to be
dug up and relaid.
Decking Frame and Lights
The existing decking needed to be sanded and re-oiled. Lets
add a frame and some lights, and furniture for good measure!
Compost and Cables
If you are going to grow flowers and veg then you are going to
need something to grow it in.
And if you have a workshop then you are going to need power.
Recycled-Greenhouse
I mentioned to the neighbour that one day I'd like to build a
greenhouse..."Here, you can have this one!" and so began the
process of moving, repairing, building and installing my first
recycled greenhouse.
Rubble and Raised Beds
In front of the decking was a mound covered in grass. A pain
to mow and I had plenty of grass elsewhere. I know, I'll make
a few raised beds...that should be easy.
Again, I didn't
know what I would uncover once I started.
Lean-to and Mini Poly Tunnel
At the top of the garden is an old greenhouse foundation, and
I belive next to it was a veg patch. However, I'd been using
it as a storage area for soil as I developed areas of the
garden and for the occasional bonfire.
Chessboard Patio
The existing patio had so many weeds growing through it that
needed removing. But as normal I tend to look for other
opportunities to incorporate! Lets just lift all the slabs and
put them back down level but in a new pattern...
...and lets throw in a strawberry patch too.
Flowers and other stuff
A selection of plants grown from seed, bulb or cuttings. I collected lots of small glass jars and now have a box of many seed varieties that will last me for years to come.
